Sycamore Village raises $2,500.00 to aid The Alzheimer’s Association

Swansea, IL – Over 200 people came to a Sycamore Village in Swansea’s Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser event, a Flea Market & Antique Appraisal Fair on Sunday, August 23rd. The event featured area vendors, as well as Professional Appraiser Mike Hobbs, who together raised a total of $360.00, all of which proceeds were donated to The Alzheimer’s Association to aid in Alzheimer’s research.

This was just one of the many fundraisers Sycamore has hosted this past year. Other events included Fresh bread Fridays, “We took orders from people, including family members of our residents, and visitors to the building. They can order white, wheat, French or cinnamon bread,” said Brinda Prather, Sycamore’s outreach coordinator, whose husband is the baker for this and other Sycamore bake sales. “My husband, Bill, is a retired baker and owned the HomeTown Bakery in Freeburg, Illinois for many years,” continued Prather.

Sycamore also fundraised with their "Pot Shots" raffles selling $5.00 raffle tickets for prizes of $100.00 cash, $100.00 worth of lottery tickets, or gift baskets with merchandise valued at $100.00.

“Of course, the AA is thrilled with our donations. Our goal was to raise $2,500.00 in time for the Alzheimer's walk on September 25, 2009, in which a team from Sycamore always participates” said Prather

In honor of National Assisted Living Week, celebrated from September 13th though the 19th, Sycamore hosted another fundraising event, “Traditions of the Heart: A Taste of Belleville” on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 4 pm – 7 pm. The event featured many area restaurants with samples of their best dishes for just $2.00, door prizes, Rodney Conner on the saxophone and the Belleville Barbershop Quartet. Refreshments, snow cones and ice cream were also available for purchase with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association.

As the area’s most experienced memory enrichment Assisted Living community, Sycamore Village partners with many local, regional and national organizations to ensure access to the highest levels of care for residents and families, as well as the community at large. Sycamore’s staff has undergone training specially designed by the Alzheimer’s Association and has been distinguished by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America for their dementia care. Sycamore also hosts monthly caregivers support groups as well as regular educational seminars for the public.
