Our mandatory training program, designed by the Alzheimer’s Association, enables our staff members to better understand the “language” of dementia. The program’s philosophy is person-centered, involving the resident physically, mentally and emotionally in his or her own care. Choices abound. Communication is stressed. Creating caring relationships with our residents and their families is a part of our culture. Importantly, our unique model of care is also in keeping with innovative best practices of The Pioneer Movement and The Best Friends Approach. Our caregivers are also required to complete their own life story. Their stories are posted on their respective neighborhood board for families to learn about who is caring for their loved one. By adopting this best friends approach to care, families, resident and staff have built relationships and increased confidence that there is no such thing as a stranger among us.
